I felt vindicated after reading your review though; you are spot-on in pointing out that George's contradictions made the plot unintelligible. It didn't make any sense why he would abandon his wife at a creepy artist's house in the boonies in order to comfort his sister-in-law (while the rest of the family went home???). That was just one of many problems. The movie seemed to hint as some sort of...Spot on. The movie seemed to hint as some sort of revelatory climax that, ultimately, never came. Why did Goerge's brother throw that spanner at his head?
